Reviews from Current & Former Students

The art books I used to learn how to draw always emphasized positivity and having fun to keep up morale - Hornbuckle provides that in spades, always eager to point out the details you did right and encouraging you to draw what you feel like drawing. Our lessons are always focused on refining details that I intend to use in future illustrations. Hornbuckle's optimism also comes with years of experience in illustration. His most valuable skill has been pinpointing the details in my art that are off when I know something is wrong but can't identify the issue myself. Thanks to him, I'm learning how to better spot those problems and it is helping me to draw more detailed faces and joints that look accurate. I recommend his art lessons for anyone who needs help tackling the fine details of their art or just needs an encouraging push to keep up their daily practice!

Hornbuckle is a great instructor! I’ve admired his work for years and have always wished I could express myself creatively too. But I was a complete novice and didn’t know where to begin. I wasn’t even sure if I had the ability to be creative. However, the lessons have been great! Hornbuckle is attentive and patient and excels at explaining not just how to draw, but also the principles behind why we are doing what we are doing during our lessons. My confidence has greatly improved, and the Discord calls are a blast. I appreciate that he’s available for feedback and advice between lessons too so I can continue to grow. I'm amazed at my progress in such a short period of time. My experience has been extremely positive, and I recommend his lessons to anyone like me who was curious about drawing and finding a creative outlet but didn’t know where to begin.

I've always loved drawing anatomical figures, but I've never had any legitimate art training my whole life -- whether it was using trace paper to draw cartoon characters or sketching out rough facsimiles of movie posters as a kid/teenager, I could never entirely capture anatomy in a way that wasn't awkward or borderline uncanny valley. But after just one lesson with Hornbuckle, I've found my attempts to depict body types of all shapes and sizes has vastly improved due to following the tips and tricks he imparted on me to build-up my skillset, such as redlining. Now, after lots of additional practice, I feel much more comfortable with my ability to sketch out a guy becoming a fat-bottomed horse or a girl swelling up into a blueberry than I ever felt before in my life, and it's all thanks to HB's wonderful teaching!

HB has been such a fantastic teacher and I'm SO glad I've had the opportunity to learn from him. I've always wanted to learn how to make my own art, but never really knew where to start, and lacked the confidence to try, but HB has helped significantly on both fronts. In addition to excellent art advice, helpful red lines, and clear direction during lessons, he's been so encouraging and positive and that's gone a really long way in building up the confidence I need to keep going on my art journey. I truly can't thank him enough!

The art lessons come highly recommended for individuals of any skill level. Whether you are a novice or possess several years of experience, HB offers comprehensive support tailored to diverse artistic needs. The constructive feedback sessions and regular monthly consultations have afforded me valuable insights and a repository of useful tips to enhance my craft. I cannot commend the program and HB's professionalism enough. I would recommend it to anyone looking to improve their art.

Hornbuckle is a wonderful teacher, and I'm building both my confidence and my skills with his lessons. Patience and kindness go a long way, and he has both in droves. Being able to see where I can improve with the redlines, as well as easy to follow explanations on proportions and anatomy are among the most valuable things I'd learned. And there's still so much left for me to learn, I'm glad to have him as a teacher.
